83. Malachite butterfly are one of more than 300 species that can be seen in the Lower Rio Grande Valley a subtropical ecosystem that appears nowhere else in the United States. Most of this rare habitat has been destroyed for agriculture and other human development–less than five percent remains and much of that is now threatened by border wall construction.
